Interesting Facts About the Great Black Wasp: Where do they migrate? The Great Black Wasp does not migrate. The larva probably passes the winter in a pre-pupal state, pupating the following spring and then emerging in summer as an adult. Once the egg hatches, the emerging larva has an immediate food source and will devour the insects as it grows and develops over approximately ten days. She catches, stings, and paralyzes her prey but does not kill it. Known as the “Katydid Hunter”, the female Great Black Wasp captures several katydids or grasshoppers and places these next to the egg. The female digs a long tunnel in the ground with multiple chambers to lay eggs. Mating season is just before the start of summer. They are a solitary wasp and do not live in colonies. When and where do they breed and nest? Like other wasps, the Great Black Wasp undergoes complete metamorphosis through (1) egg, (2) larva, (3) pupa, and (4) adult. Regardless of the approach you take, the process of creating audiobooks the traditional way is time-consuming, tedious, and, expensive. You can go ahead and upload the book to Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), which will make your audiobook available on Amazon, Audible, and the Apple audiobook store. Once you have recorded and edited the voiceover and are happy with the final result, it’s time to publish the audiobook. If not, you can hire a professional audio editor to fine-tune your narration. If you’re comfortable with audio editing and have real experience, you can edit the audio yourself. Step three involves getting the recording edited so that it meets the standards of the distribution channels. If you’ve chosen to narrate the book yourself, you’ll need to set up a recording studio at home or rent a recording studio to ensure you create the highest quality product possible. You can either hire narrators/voice actors or read the book in your own voice. The next step involves narrating and recording the audio voiceover of the book. It’s important that your audiobook matches the paperback version of your book, word for word, because sometimes readers tend to follow along while listening. But if you haven’t, it's critical to finalize the manuscript. If you’ve already published the book, this step is easy your manuscript should already be perfectly polished. The first step to creating an audiobook is getting the manuscript ready. That said, irrespective of whether you hire a narrator or record the audiobook yourself, you will need to budget for an audio engineer to do the editing and post-production tasks.īelow are the steps that go into creating an audiobook the traditional way: If you choose the latter, you will need to purchase proper recording equipment and set aside a good deal of time. ![]() The former can cost anywhere between $1,000-$3,000 depending on the length of the book. There are two primary routes one can take to convert a book into an audio format: either hire a professional audiobook narrator to record the book for you or record it yourself. But, how to create an audiobook? What are the steps involved in publishing an audiobook? Audiobook’s localization option allows such individuals to translate or dub the content of the book into their native language or a language of their choice, enabling them to get on the reading bandwagon. In reality, a major part of the world doesn’t speak English. That said, not everybody knows how to read or write English. In other words, audiobooks help people squeeze more reading into their daily lives. Other growth factors include an increasing thirst for audio content, convenience, flexibility, and localization options.įor some, listening to the audio version of a book makes their commuting bearable others enjoy hearing it while doing household chores. This ease of accessibility is one of the major reasons for the surge of audiobooks. Available as digital audio files, these can be played on a wide variety of consumer electronic devices, including phones, tablets, computers, home speaker systems, and in-car entertainment systems-any device that supports streaming audio. ![]() Overall, Sato and Woolley show that the production of estrogen in the brain escalates seizure activity, and suggest that aromatase inhibitors may be useful for controlling seizures. The drug strongly suppressed seizures, whereas control rats that did not receive the injection continued to have seizures. Sato and Woolley tested this by injecting rats with a drug that inhibits estrogen production, called an aromatase inhibitor, shortly after seizures began. Because estrogens are known to increase the activity of cells in the hippocampus, this suggested that estrogens that are produced in the brain during seizures could make seizures worse. Sato and Woolley studied male and female rats and found that in both sexes, seizures stimulate the production of estrogens in the hippocampus – a part of the brain that is often involved in seizures. Sato and Woolley therefore set out to test a two-part hypothesis: that seizures stimulate the production of estrogen in the brain, and that inhibiting this production process just as seizures begin would make seizures less severe. However, estrogens are also made in the brain of both sexes, where they could promote activity during seizures. Most people think of estrogens as being female sex hormones. A better alternative would be to target a factor that promotes activity especially during seizures. Although this is often effective in controlling seizures, it can also lead to negative side effects like drowsiness, dizziness or difficulty concentrating. Current anti-seizure medications work by reducing brain activity generally. ![]() Seizures occur when connected groups of cells in the brain become over-active and fire together. These results reveal neurosteroid estrogen synthesis as a previously unknown factor in the escalation of seizures and suggest that acute administration of aromatase inhibitors may be an effective treatment for SE. Consistent with a seizure-promoting effect of hippocampal estrogen synthesis, intra-hippocampal aromatase inhibition also suppressed seizures. Hippocampal E2 levels were higher in rats experiencing more severe seizures. We found that KA-induced SE stimulates synthesis of estradiol (E2) in the hippocampus, a brain region commonly involved in seizures and where E2 is known to acutely promote neural activity. Here, we show in rats that systemic administration of an aromatase (estrogen synthase) inhibitor after seizure onset strongly suppresses both electrographic and behavioral seizures induced by kainic acid (KA). In vitro studies suggest a novel approach to controlling seizures in SE: acute inhibition of estrogen synthesis in the brain. Status epilepticus (SE) is a common neurological emergency for which new treatments are needed. One safety signal identified in post-authorization surveillance studies of both vaccines is an association with rare blood clotting events with low platelet counts - thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) and vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) - which were not observed in the Phase 3 trials. In post-authorization studies, both the Oxford-AstraZeneca and J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccines have been demonstrated to be safe. However, like mRNA vaccines, their effectiveness varies against different SARS-CoV-2 variants ( see Emerging Variants ) and appears to wane over time ( see Immunity page ). Finally, the Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine (Sputnik V), developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia, is another viral vector vaccine that uses two human adenovirus vectors, (Ad26 and Ad5), both of which encode for the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.īoth the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen and Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective against both symptomatic and severe COVID-19 across age groups and in diverse populations (see literature subsections for Johnson & Johnson/Janssen and Oxford-AstraZeneca ). It encodes for the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. This vaccine uses a chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAdOx1, which is based on ChAdY25) as the viral vector. The Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is another viral vector vaccine that has been authorized for use in many countries. This vaccine uses a human adenovirus, Ad26, as the viral vector, and encodes for a stabilized variant of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. under emergency use authorization by FDA. The Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 is the only viral vector vaccine currently available in the U.S. Several COVID-19 vaccines are based on this technology, including the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, Oxford-AstraZeneca and Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V) vaccines. Nonreplicating viral vector vaccines infect cells, resulting in the production of the vaccine antigen, but the viral vector cannot be reproduced (van Riel, July 2020 ). The only currently licensed replication-competent vaccines are the recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV)-Zaire Ebola virus vaccine and the live attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine. The viral vector is also produced and is then able to infect new cells, which then create more viral antigen. Replicating viral vector vaccines infect cells, resulting in the production of the vaccine antigen. Viral vector vaccines can be replicating or nonreplicating: The antigen is then expressed on the host cell surface, resulting in the induction of an immune response. ![]() In the nucleus, the genes of the pathogen are expressed, resulting in the creation of the antigen. Taishan shadow puppetry, a national intangible cultural heritage, has a history of more than 600 years.
